Minute by Governor Macdonnell.
Der Aushi.
9th January 1872.
I see no reason why in Ford's department there should be any departure from the normal rule that it should be altogether under the control of the Surveyor General. The interposition of the latter officer is the proper organ of communication with the Government. It may have been necessary when the Gardens and Public Planting were in charge of a person so uneducated and of generally such inferior personal status as Mr. Donaldson, the late Superintendent.
At present I see no result but injurious delay in placing any department between Mr. Ford and the Executive.
