With reference to your letter dated 10th August 1880 forwarding copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong covering correspondence with the Military authorities in the Colony respecting the desire of the Major General Commanding the troops to obtain certain pieces of land which he considers necessary to complete the defence of the batteries at Kowloon. I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acquaint you for the information of the Earl of Kimberley that the subject has been referred to the Royal Commission on the defence of British Possessions and Colonies Abroad, as suggested.
