In reply to your letter of the 21st Instant,

I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies,

that there is no objection to the Governor of Hong Kong being authorized by telegraph to swear in the next Military Officer in command at that place as a Member of the Executive Council,

until the return of the Major General will be Doniran(?) and

the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief has been instructed by telegraph to act accordingly.
