In the meantime, we have received this further letter from the W.O. enclosing a copy of further despatch from the General renewing in the strongest terms his protest against any upturning of the soil, or building, especially of houses for Chinese.
The W.O. asks what action has been taken upon their former letter and asks that Sir M. Hicks Beach will take steps for the prevention of cultivation or building as proposed.
In writing as instructed by the Governor in his minute of March 13, on the 28th of February, it is suggested that the Governor might be asked not to permit any portion of this ground to be used for cultivation or building operations without further instructions.
It is intimated that any building operations, such as erecting houses or even digging holes for the Chinese, would be obviously objectionable.
Similar instructions were given regarding any class of buildings.
