that the Surveyor would be directly responsible to the
harbour master & through
him to the governor.
The agreement would
be for 3 years on probation
with power to the Hongkong
government to retain his
services if
Satisfied with
the
manner in which he has
performed his duties
(iii) and (2)
As regards pension
I am to enclose
a
copy
of
the Colonial Office minute
of 1878 on the Pensions
of officers quitting Imperial
service,
and to state that Lord Kimberley
presumes that in accordance
with the
arrangement
described
in it the Surveyor to be
appointed to Hong Kong
will not lose his claim
to an Imperial pension for
his Imperial service, if
his aggregate pensionable
service, Imperial & Colonial,
amount to 10
years.
As regards the Hong Kong
pension
- the 60th of Hong Kong general
Salary will as a
rule be allowed for each
year of Hong Kong service
