I would

that we

should send the Board

of Trade

a copy

of the C.O. Minute of 1870

of officers quitting Imperial for Colonial Service, and say that it is presumed that in accordance with the arrangement described in it, the Surveyor to be appointed to Hong Kong will not lose his claim

to Imperial pension for this temporary Service; if this temporary Service, duplicated and Colonial, amount

to 10 years: - that as regards the Hong Kong pension, 1/60 of Hong Kong Salary will, as a rule, be allowed for each year of 365 days' Service, if the duplicated and Hong Kong Services, taken together, make

up 10 years, and he

retires

on

account of age or ill health; - and that, after

retirement, if Service in Hong Kong, terminated as above, 1/60 of Hong Kong Salary will be allowed, - and an additional sixtieth for each completed year, provided final aggregate pension shall not

exceed

that the

rule cannot provide that any

addition

to the pension

might be made

to the Colonial Service.
