In reply to your letter of the 21st instant, the Council are of opinion that you should either substantiate the allegation or withdraw it, before you leave the Colony.

On the 21st and 22nd instant, I withdraw the allegation I have made as to motive for the publication of Mr. Ford's report.
With regard to the other complaints (irrespective of the motive) I have made, I desire they may be laid before the Secretary of State.
