the Police Stations in this Colony are now in telegraphic communication with the Central Station.

This arrangement will also enable whatever forts Her Majesty's Government may complete at the Kowloong side, to communicate by telegraph with the forts at this side.

Instead of $800, the estimate just before me for this work, it has actually cost $1,631.50.

I enclose for Your Lordship's information copies of some papers in explanation of this increase in the cost of the work.

Though I have had to double the sum I had been led to expect, yet looking to the public advantage of such telegraphic communication in rendering our Police Force more efficient and to the defence of the harbour, I do not grudge the outlay.
