value of a statement by Mr. Gibbons? Looking into this matter very carefully I have written a decision which I intended as a caution to Mr. Gibbons personally. In reply, Gibbons wrote a letter complaining that he was charged a stamp of $2 for a letter.

His Excellency the Governor has a copy of my judgment. Mr. Gibbons' letter dated 6th September and my letter dated the 8th September with judgment enclosed, both in your archives, illustrate Mr. Gibbons' tone of pleading. I was not able to refer to them when making a letter to you, which was necessary to address the grievance thereof. You, in which he desired the opinion of the Secretary of State, made several remarks in terms disparaging as to the rest of my decision.

This rendered it necessary for me to send for the use of His Excellency the relevant documents, which are important. Mr. Gibbons in his charge against me further states this: "It soon became evident that the Chief Justice was not desirous that I (Mr. Gibbons) should proceed with winding up the Bankruptcies with which the Convict Huffer was connected".
