Taking these points seriatim,
I have the honour to state that, during the period in question, the full Salary of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, the full Salary of one Police Magistrate, with the half Salary of the other Police Magistrate were drawn.
Mr. Plunket, besides doing duty as Registrar, had been acting Magistrate from the time the late St. Leger went on leave of absence, at first without Salary. After St. Leger's death, from the 26th April, 1879, Mr. Plunket received half Salary as Magistrate, and in addition to this he continued to draw full Salary as Registrar, and to perform all the duties of the office, up to the date of Mr. Gibbons' arrival in the Colony.
