Hong Kong 16th February 1880
I have the honor to inform you
that I
am suffering from exhaustion from overwork and I am unable to perform my
duties. I beg therefore to request that I may be granted fourteen days' leave of absence, and I shall be glad if you will be good enough to make arrangements for the carrying
on of the work of the Hospital.
I have the honor to be,
Your obedient Servant,
At C. J. Wharry
M.D. C.C. S. Juk C2 Superintendent
Colonial Surgeon
This is a more serious matter and I request that His Excellency the Governor will take the matter into consideration and if he should see fit to appoint a Board to examine into Dr Wharry's. I have too often had occasion to differ with Dr Wharry on the subject of his being overworked that this is tantamount to an accusation of injustice.
In the interval I have no doubt I can procure the services of Dr Marques who is a M.D. of Dublin to do duty during Dr Wharry's indisposition.
February 16th 1880.
Colonial Surgeon.
