If, therefore, his proceeding had not been endorsed by you, I should have felt it necessary to censure him seriously for making what purports to be an official report the vehicle for personal abuse against a brother officer.
I must express my strong disapproval of his proceeding in this matter, which had been decided more than a year before by the Secretary of State.
As the matter stands, I must express my dissatisfaction that you permitted these passages in the report to be printed.
I am at a loss to understand what useful purpose could have been answered by its publication; and I direct that you will at once cancel it and that you will insert a notice in the Government Gazette stating that this has been done and is now practicable.
You will inform Mr. Price that in compliance with his request, I have directed this report to be cancelled.
