et. Ford left for England on the 10th of February 1877. Though, as the result showed, Mr. Price was fully justified in anticipating what the resolution of the Governor in Council would be, he would have been more strictly correct if he had written that the Governor in Council would "resolve to"
for it was not till the 8th of March 1877 that the resolution in question was moved. It was moved by Mr. Brice and assented to by Mr. Administrator Austin. Neither the Governor nor Mr. Ford was in the Colony at the time.
On my arrival in April 1880, I found Mr. Price in charge of the whole of the Botanical Department. Before the middle of the month of May, I sent for Mr. Price and told him that the tree-planting of the island should be conducted on a larger scale. I repeated this to him some weeks afterwards and asked him for a report. In his letter of 26th August 1880 to Your Lordship, he makes mention of the wishes I conveyed to him, but refers to his report of the 28th of August as springing from the deep interest taken by me.
