In my despatch no. 177 of the 29th of December 1899 I reported having made some reduction in this item of our annual expenditure; and before sanctioning the enclosed requisition I referred it with my former minutes to the official members of the Legislative Council for a Report, which I have the honour to enclose for Your Lordship's information.

I should be glad if the three unsalaried members of the Legislative Council would kindly look over these requisitions and favour us with their views as to the annual expenditure on Stationery. The Audit department can annexe statements of the annual expense under this head, for the last four years; and furnish the Board with any further information or explanation that may be needed.
