M. Deane, the Captain Superintendent of Police. Some of his objections seemed to be due to the fact that he had had experience of the working of a Police Force outside this Colony, and no special training for the duties of Police Officer. One of his objections, however, was deserving of very careful consideration, that in which he urged that the increased night duty system would seriously injure the health of the men.
As I have thrown the increased night service entirely on the Chinese and Indian police, the Europeans have not had any additional night work; I am happy to say that the Hospital returns clearly show that the Chinese and Indian police employed on this night duty have not suffered in health.
