I may also mention that I have had several years' experience in repairing a large portion of the steam vessels passing through and trading from Hongkong. And in many cases, I have been surveying and giving reports on the machinery of passenger and cargo steamers,

which reports were received by Lloyd's and other shipping authorities. I have also managed a penal engineering business and the construction of new boats and launches, and boilers of various sizes.

I am enclosing copies of testimonials. Kindly allow me to refer to those from Colonel Boxer, No. A, and Mr. James Duncan Davidson, both of Woolwich Arsenal, where I was employed in the department and assisted in working out the new machinery being designed and introduced at that time.

On being appointed in 1864 as Superintendent of the dock then being constructed for the Colony, I inspected a larger portion of the new work.

On my arrival, I took charge of the construction of the building and machinery.

On the closing of that institution in April 68, I secured an appointment as Acting Secretary of the Union Dock Company, and superintended the completion of the dock. Marion was a Nahops at Kowloon, now the property of the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company, through the amalgamation of the two companies in 1870.
