The Oriental Bank, The Chartered Mercantile, and The Chartered Bank of India &c. are branches of three Banking Companies whose head offices are in London. They alone, with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Company, issue notes. The latter Bank is established and incorporated by Ordinance 5 of 1866. An amending Ordinance 1 of 1872 was introduced but disallowed. The other Banks come under Rules and Regulations, see Colonial List 1879 Chapter I, Section III. There is, besides, the National Bank of India.
