With reference
to
my despatch No. 554 of
the 19th April
I transmit
by copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hongkong, from which it would
appear that there is
from that Colony
no prospect of obtaining a
supply of
Chinese
Gardeners for the Gold Coast. Sir J. Pope Hennessy's
suggestion as to the obtaining of negroes from the West Indies may possibly however be worth your
attention.
