I am glad to see that the people of Bombay and other great Indian cities are actively and promptly responding to the appeal on be alf Ireland, and I trust that the Indians of Hongkong will not prove behind hand in the samt good cause.--(Applause.)

IRISH DISTRESS FUND.
Honourable P. RYRE.--Your Excellency, Ladies and Gentlemen, the resolution which has beg in ny hands is purely a business matter. You are well aware that subscriptions are proposed and every one is willing to give, but an active working Committee is required to carry the thing out. have now ladies and gentlemen, to propose to you a number of names to form that Committee. I perfectly certain that when you hear the names you will all assent. The Resolution was carried nem. con. The Bisuor-Ladies and Gentlemen, I beg to propose a vote of thanks to His Excellency initiating this movement amongst us. There is a naturalness in its coming from His Excellency, Ayres, Dr. Ph. B. C., (Col. Surgeon). the country we are interested in at this moment is his own, but in the matter of benevolence levedo, F. H. de, happy to say, and I think this meeting as a representative meeting sufficiently shows it, that we k neither country, nor sect, nor creed.-(Applause.) I am very sure that His Excellency would ha been equally forward to initiate a similar movement bad it been for any other country, for instance, own poor country of Scotland, which, as we all know, is very productive of rocks, but is happily subject to famines.--(Applause.)

On the 17th March, the Second Meeting of the Committee was held at Government House, ve His Excellency the Governor was requested to telegraph to the Duchess of MARLBOROUGH and Dohami, P. Pestonjee, that a second sum of £1,000 would that day be transinitted.
It was also unanimously resolved that His Excellency the Governor be requested to telegrap the Lord Mayor of Dublin" that £1,000 would that day be transmitted in a similar manner to Lordship's Fund.
His Excellency then read an extract from a communication received by him to the effect the distress in the South of Ireland was very severe, and the Honorary Secretary announced thar subscriptions already amounted to about $12,000, when the Meeting separated.
On the 25th March, the Third Meeting of the Committee was held at Government House, His Excellency the Governor stated that he had received the following telegrams in acknowledge
of remittances.
From the Duchess of MarlborougH, Irish ladies send grateful thanks.”
From the Lord Mayor of Dublin, "On Patrick's Day, Ireland thanks you."
On the question of the disposal of the Funds in hand, it was unanimously resolved, at the of the Chinese Subscribers, that the sum of £1,000 should be remitted, to the Mayor of Cork. Excellency Governor HENNESSY's native city.
It was further resolved that a third remittance of £1,000 should be sent to the Fund origis by the Duchess of MARLBOROUGH.
It was resolved that His Excellency be asked to allow the Honorary Secretary to publish Gazette account of the origin and progress of the Fund, and a List of the Subscribers, to be su mented in the weekly issue of the Gazette as further names were added.
