TOO MUCH WEALTH HAS LED TO THE NO ASHES TO FALL OF AMERICA'S
TENNIS EMPIRE
Says CORNELIUS RYAN ·
New York.
A sports empire is much like a political or military empire, and too much richness can lead to its downfall. So it was with American amatear tennis in 1950 as the USA lost the Davis Cup to Australia.
America's richness in the things that make for tennis supremacy had seemed 60 great a few years ago that it was a strong possibility that the USA never again would lose the Cup.
for year-around tennis in Southern America had the proper climato California and in Florida. In each state it had individuals and associations with money to spend on the development of players, which often can be a lengthy and expensive process as the players go from tournament to tournament, improving slowly. And America had thousands of young players from whom to choose.

Medical Aspect Of Boxing
Get Special Attention Board Of Control
Το
From
London, Oct. 18.
Britain is to follow the lead given by Italy and Spain in paying special attention to the "medical aspect" of boxing. This was announced today by Mr J. Onslow Fane, the Chairman of the British Boxing Board of Control when he pre- sided at a press conference.
He explained that a plan was being pursued for the introduction of advisers in Britain's seven areas who would give lectures on first aid to corner men, managers and seconds and would deal with the treatment of boxers | following knockouts and hand injuries; the use of grense between rounds; and investigating the "mysterica" of punch drunkenness.
