This melancholy #intisic Isn't based on the men's roy- ing observallen. 11. comes from the Corset and Brassiere Auto- elation of America.

"Of the 53,000,000 U.S. womens above the age of 15, nt least 95 percent are overweight, or

Jack symmetry in the vicinity of bosoma,, waist or hips," said Fletcher D. Dodge, executive vie:-president of the socia-

tion,

Nature's errort

No, all he surveys is the cor- ket zona. To correct nature's error in this area the women

of America in 1950 will spend $400,000,000 or more for girdles girdles, brassieres, ban- fenux, correts, corselettes, fal- Fica and garter belts.

Every year Fletcher reviews the statua of the American female shape. He is A stern and invariably Anda critic something wrong with it.

And what about falsies? "More and more women will be wearing them," Dedge said Antly.

Fletcher says the Americas woman has grown taller and wider hipped in the Inst five years, but that the still prefern the same hape that has been last half cen- populor for the tury,

"If women want us men to watch their igures," he warn- ed, "they have to watch them first."

Basom problems

Despite their reported guin in hip width, most American women appear to be more con- cerned with borom problems.

"Brusslere output bas quad- rupled since 1927. Increasing from 25,000,000 to about 100,- 000,000" said Dodge, "They account for about $188,- 000,000 of the $400,000,000 peit for all types of foundation gar- inents."

Fletcher isn't so proud about the Indies on the West Coast.

HALTERETTE

STRAPLESS and bareback dresses certainly show

a good shoulder to perfection. However, many women like some sort of added adornment. And that is where Trifari's now "Halteretto" comes in for a lot of popularity. It offers the neckline a safe feeling and also does a decorative job. This one is composed of double-leaved strands of stones that look just like enamel and are set in delicate gilt metal. The large flower plus are dotachable and can be used separately Beautiful in snowy white against a tanned skin.

The chief feature of this trenj ment is a reduction in the amount of food, at least during the Arst 12 hours. At the came lime, it includes injections in make up for the fluid lost from the body by reason of the diar- rine. A form of sugar, glucose, is often added to these Buide to keep up the child's energy. -It has recently been suggested that perhaps a better and more natural way. of combating thn disorder would be to give the child more food rather than less, that is, to provide a diet high in calories. This would not only make good the loss of food cle. ments resulting from the diar- Thoca but would olsu keep up the child's weight and his natur. al disease-fighting powers.

With this treatment, it was found that the babies gained weight more rapidly and recov

shorter period of time. Of course, further study of this method of treatment is neces sary before it can be completa- ly adopted.

NOSEBLEED, (1 common indisposition, may be due to many causes, of local and gen- ernt classification.

The local causes include those which directly affect the nose- for example, a blow on the note, picking of the nose, or tumours of the nose.

Among the general causes are the neute diseases, especially the beginning of measles; con- ditions in which there is high blood pressure, such as harden- Ing of the arteries, chronle kid- ney disease, and diseases of the Such a method of treatment blood, such my anaemia. has been carried out on a num- Nosebleed frequently

Rules For A Successful Home Dye

TOME

dyeing of wardrobe and household articles is one of the most satisfying household tasks possible,

The principal rules are easy in follow: Be stire the fabric is clean. Thoroughly wet 5~ ticles with water before putting Hem in the dye bath. Be sure container 18 JATKO enough in that fabric can be moved about curtains, table-cloths, draperies, freely. Large Items such as

evening gowns should be hard- led in a laundry tub or washing machine. Follow package direc- tions implicitly.

Colour Remover

To make the job easier, use colour remover before redyeing an article. Colour remover also good for removing colcur from streaked, faded, spotted or slained fabric before dying, so that the new colour will be ven and true. To get lighter

colours than those shown in the colour card, uso less dye in the golution. To deepen the shade, use more dye. Be careful not to force fabric between stirrer and container. Remove the ar ticle from the dye bath before adding more dye.

Something Simple

If you are a beginner, dye something simple, and be sure of the fibre content of the fab- ric. Regular dyes will handle ik, cotton, wool and linen. Ali purpose dyes work well on syn. thetics such as nylon and var lous rayons Exceptions seem to be such fabrics as acetate-rayon Laffeta and sharkskins. As for the shrinkage problemn, well, a certain amount of shrinkage should be anticipated, so be sure that the article you plan to dye is large enough to cope with this
