Rio De Janeiro, July 16.

Uruguay today became the 1950 world soccer champlon by defeating Brazil 2-1 in one of the most dramatic games in football history. Brazil needed only a tie to clinch the world crown and it seemed for a long while that it would get it.

The first hall ended in a 9-0 lie and the hopes of the 160,000 tense fans went up when in the first minute of the second half right-winger Frinca scored the first goal for Brazil.
