Ballet sets the stage

LONDON.

The scene la set for a ballet. Behind a trans- parency of rayon sheer, Odette's costume is posed for action. A violin waits to be played. A satin ballet shoe is polsed-but not in a theatre. The backcloth is a fabric display. The "theatre" is the Rayon Industry Design Centre in London.

The theme of the textile exhibition was based upon Covent Garden, and was intended as a tribute to the Sadler's Wells Ballet. The graceful llegency house, which is the home of the Design Centre, has faken on a theatrical appearance for this occasion. Contemporary play-bilis grace the walls, and in the entrance, a large mural deplets Covent Garden in 1830. To further create the illusion, new and in- teresting fabrics are arranged as for a stage in a small alcove, carefully lit to show them off to ad- vantage. In a corner, a fruit-porters' trolley adds an amusing touch.
