COLONY SWIMMERS COME
CLOSE TO RECORDS
The second evening of heats in the Colony Swimming Cham- pionships at Victoria Recreation Club yesterday suggested that the finals on Saturday night may see an impressive list of new records and, more interesting than that, a real upset or two for a change.
The first thrill yesterday evening was the defeat of Hongkong's own "ach flon," Chan Chun-nam of Lai Tsun, by Eastern's Wonder Boy, Cheong Kin-man, in the first heat of the 880 Yards. Free Style in time that was only one second off the. Colony record established by Chan last year.
More surprising yet, VRC's. 14-year-old Cynthia Eager outswam her team: mate, Shauna Anderson, in the excellent time of 3 minutes 01.4 seconds in the 220 Yards Free Style, with University's Mamie Leung returning the identical time In the second heat to suggest not only a closu finish in the fihal but a toppling record.

Three or four hours continuously under water, though equipped with very much less than the usual type of marine diver's outfit, is commonplace to Mr W. J. Heffernan, of The Entrance, New South Wales, for example..
He is Vice-President of the Underwater Spear-fishing Association, and has been, an active spear-fisherman for 20 years. His equipment designed by himself, is the result of all that experience. The association has more than 150 men mem- bers-and some women. It is now 18 months old..
