BEN HOGAN “REJECTS"
A SET OF IRONS
Charles Whitcombe Is Optimistic
Scarborough, Sept. 15. Ben Hogan, the non-playing captain of the United States Ryder Cup team, caused a stir in British golf circles this evening when he objected to the clubs of some of the British players who are to meet the Am ricans in the Cup foursomes tomorrow.
A routine inspection requested by Hogan started in a casual manner. Then the American "rejected" Dick Burton's complete set of irons, several Irons belong. ing to Arthur Lees and one of those owned by Sam King.
It is understood that the objections were on the grounds that some of the
krooves were cut too deeply and too far apart.
King's clubs was filed and passed, and those of Arthur Lees were also cleared after being situilarly dealt with. Some of the clubs of Lees' ofthit, to which Hogan took exception, are American-made.

BEN HOGAN'S "POWER GOLF"
22.-Bunker Shots Are Easy
Playing out of a busker or trap became so ensy for Gene Sarazen when he was competing in tournaments regularly that it was always suspected that he deliber ately played into them when he was ahead in order to give the gallery the thrill of watching him get out. This, is one of the easiest shots in golf, but most beginners `aro terrified at the idea of having to play out of a bunker. I can't understand why they should be because it is a shot which allows more of a margin of error than any other.
You don't even have to hit the ball on a short bunker shot. All you have to do is to hit the sand behind the ball. Of course, it must be done properly, but it isn't hard to do with the und wedge we use to- day.
