He was replying to congratulations on his election from the three High Commissioners at a reception in Bad Godesberg.

M. Andre Franco-Poncet, the French High Commissioner who presented the congratulations on behalf of the High Commissioners, spoke of the histori cal significance of Dr Heuss's election,

Far East Greatest Threat To World Peace

-Stikker

Washington, Sept. 13. The Netherlands Foreign Minister. Mr Dirk Stikker, who arrived here today for the Atlantic Pact Council meeting, said that the greatest threat to world peace came from the Far East.

He added: "The storm centre is no longer Europe."

Stiltker was asked in an interview if he found hopes for peace in Europe brighter than when he was here last spring to sign the North Atlantic Post on behalf of his government..

He replied in the affirmative. and attributed the lessened tension in Europe to the Allan- tic Pact.

"The pact bas so far fullled the hopes of its sponsors," ho said.

Asked what he thought of the Pocile pact idea advanced by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shok, Mr Stikker replied: "We are most interested in anything that we can find which

will help

stem the tide of Communism."

He added that he had seen no specific details of the pinn, but said that 12 the Pacific pact would check Communism "We are naturally interested." Mr Stikker hailed the de- clale of the United States to review its stockpiling
