A New Man

By RONALD BOXALL

The bell rang out for the fourteenth round. Freddie Mills, the cruiserweight champion of the world, came out of his corner to make one last desperate attempt to connect with his lethal left hook and arest the British; Empire and European heavyweight championships From Bruce Woodcock. Nearly fifty thousand people in London's White City Stadium held their breath.

Mills was so far behind on points that only a knock-out could swing the verdict his way--and he knew it. With all the courage that the British boxing publle, have come to know so well he tried to fight his way through Woodcock's unflinching defence. But he might as well have tried to cut his way through the Iron Curtain with a can-opener.

Boxing better than he has over done before, Woodcock kept him at arm's length with well-timed and delivered straight lofta. Mills went back-and Wood- cock saw his chance. He measured his opponent with a left to the head, followed a split second later by a crashing right. Mills wilted, and as he sank to the canvas another vicious right landed on his head.
