Both countries have clumped down on imports on similar grounds, namely, they could not afford the luxury of spending. Sterling at the rates they had reached in recent times, from the point of view of long- term national economy.
Apart from conserving their Sterling credits, these restrictions will help in bringing about à closer approach to an equilibrium in payments - ..with Britain.
