King George V School, the holders of the Governor's Shield, second senior took the lead from St Joseph's College after the event in yesterday's' Inter-School Athletics finals at Caroline Hill and never abandoned it.
KGS won with 57 points against St Joseph's 41 other leading scores being La Salle College's 281⁄2, the Diocesan Boys' School's 27, Wah Yan (Hongkong) College's 26, St Stephen's college'. 23 and Queen's College's19.
Three records were broken in the Senior Section.
Peter McRae of King George V School ran the 200 metres in 23 4/5 seconds, bettering by 1/5 of a second the record of 24 seconds flat established. by Ong Cheng-su of the Diocesan Boys' School in 1934, subsequently equalled by J. Gosano of La Salle in 1938 and Clifton Large of the DBS in 1940.
Reggie Silva of St. Joseph's ran the 1,500 metres in 4 mins. 35 1/5 seconds to better the old record of 4 mins. 40 seconds set by Ian Kempton of CUS in 1938.
Ho Hit-po of St. Joseph's negotinted the 110 Metres High Hurdles in 18.1 seconds, improving by one-tenth of a second on the mark established by Tan Yong-nec of St. Stephen's in 1939 and equalled by Brendan Wilson of CBS in 1939.
Practically every record in the book in the Junior Division was broken as St. Joseph's College won the Schools' Association Shield with 40 points 29 for Queen's College and against 33 for La Salle College, 24 for the DBS.
