By "RECORDER"
Ip Koon-hung, Tsui Wai-puí, Tsui Yan- pui and Roch Leung reached the semi- finals of the Colony Open Grasscourt Sin- gles Championship at the HKCC yesterday and in such a manner as to suggest that they are--the four of them-in a class by them- selves where local tennis is concerned.
In advancing into the semi-finals, they con ceded, between them, just 13 games. Some excel- font tennis was seen but it was, when the final pot on the back has been given the losers, one-sided.
A suggestion that has been gaining ground lately in favour of an annual Consolation Tourna- ment, or Junior Championship, on the lines of Wimbledon's All-England Plate, open to all who have never reached the semi-final, gained more ground
from yesterday's results than it has from many evenings of clubhouse argument.

Cricket Pitches
London, Mar. 16. Two new types of practice cricket pitches, one of rubber-lald concreto and the other of matting on portable concrete slabs, are being tried out this year.
When the Essex County coaching classes begin at Chelmsford at Easter, a new experimental rubber pitch will be used for the first time. Two concreto pitches have been laid, and these will be covered with a rubberised surface which, it is hoped, will enable bowlers to make the fullest use of the spin.
