ALL IS RIGHT WITH ENGLISH RUGBY
By JOHN MACADAM
Whatever caterwauling may be going on about the paucity of Soccer stars in the making—and in· the board rooms it is considerable, for by the time you have named half-a-dozen really class players on the way up you are through—it is abundantly clear that all is right with English Rugby.
There always has been rivalry between the two codes except in pochets Uke South Wales and the borders of Scotland, where the question of a boy, taking up anything but Rugger would be regarded as tantamount to sacrilege- but now clearly the carriers of the ball are shaking the kickers of it to the very foundations. In the schools,
We were aware of the fact that the Soccor wall had been threatened, but we had no idea that it had in fact been breached in the South and West until, disdaining 8 number of League Soccer engagements, each of which look- ed like just one more match, we journeyed to Torquay to see the England Rugby players of the future.

Foreign Invasion Of American Sport
By CORNELIUS RYAN
Foreign sports stars played an amazingly_prominent → role in American sports in 1918 und will continue to do No in 1919.
Amuzing, because the USA long has been a leader in most sports due to its size and facilities and because America suffered little in the war compared to other nations.
Yet many of those other nations | have produced athletes who equal or surpass the best Americnos, and to- day the USA is importing more and more foreign stars in an effort to stimulate its own sports.
Professional boxing. of course, leads in this, Marcel Cerdan was brought to Ameriga from France for the middleweight championship, greatly enhancing the reputation of European boxing.
Now two other French middle-

Each of these men, as are the Im- ports in other sports, is a national champion at least, but two years ago few experts thought that even these champions could hold their own with the top-flight Americans who had good food and competent teaching even during the war.
