SERVICES' DAY IN LEAGUE CRICKET

¿

An abbreviated fixture list in the Cricket League on Saturday saw Recreio go down before Army, who now stand equal with them at the top of the First Division, and Royal Navy win its first Senior League fixture of the year at the expense of the Indian Recreation Club.

Recreio, at full strength and playing at home, went down to Army by three wickets. It would be unfair to say that it was an upset. Both teams were at full strength , and the better team won.

Army made it by a narrow margin. Victory came in the one butsiast over of the game and the number of fingers crossed at that stage suggested an aboriginal ritual. No explanations were offered for how Recreio lost and none was necessary.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE TEAM ELIMINATES

SUNDERLAND AFTER EXTRA TIME

London, Jan. 29-Yeovil Town, of the Southern League, the only team outside the Football League left in the FA Cup, today earned undying fame with a thrilling fourth round victory in extra time over the First Division "giants". Sunderland.

The gallant Somerset club thus equalled the feat last season of Colchester United, who reached the fifth round before going out at the hands of Blackpool, the eventual finalists.

Everybody in football will wish Yeovil the luck of the draw on Monday. Whether or not the Yeovil sloping pitch played any part in the result, the fact remains that on the day's play Sunderland could not grumble at their defent.

Saigon Draw With Combined Chinese

By "FAIR PLAY"

A draw was a fitting result to this match at Caroline yesterday, for, taking the game as a whole, neither side desserved to win. That just about sums up the whole affair. It was a day of missed chances, sliced kicks, misplaced passes, and at times, play.
