"Favouritism" Says Mrs Todd
San Diego, Calif., Dec. 21- Mra Patricia Canning Todd, high-ranking National and Wightman Cap teùnis player, has accused the United States Lawn Tennis Association of favouritism' in dropping her to No. 6 in the Ranking Committen recommendation.
She was No. 7 in 1947.
Mrs Todd, winner of the 'National Indoors singles title and the Belgian and South American champloships this year, based her criticism on her calm of a better, major tournament record than at least two playern ranked higher than her.
She complained that the Associa tion had no standard rules for rank- ing, and accused the Ranking Com- mlitee of reprisala, against her for her temerity in speaking up against the French officials in the "Affair Landry,"
Mra Todd defaulted to Madamo Nellie Landry at Paris Last May after maintaining that as champion she was entitied to play on the Centro Court, and thus lost her chance to retain the French title that she had won the previous year. Ileuter.

FUTURE DERBY WINNERS AMONG THIS SEASON'S TWO-YEAR-OLDS
With the flat-racing season in the British Isles closed down, turf enthusiasts are ruminating with more than usual interest on the free handicap, which is the official Jockey Club handicapper, Mr Geoffrey Freer's, view of the relative merits of this season's two-
years-olds.
While the weights allotted in the Free Handicap really mean little when assessing chances of colts and fillies in next season's Classics, if previous free handicap weights are any criterion, it is interesting to note how they are officially placed and the official view of their relative merits.
In view of the fact that the free handicap is over seven furlongs while the major juvenile races aro not run aver a greater distance than six furlongs, the handicappor has obviously got to take into same account the breeding of colts and. Hilles and their scope for improve ment as well as nöting what they actually did in the 1948 season.
