of tournament bridge in Pittsburgh, Pa., is Paul Thoma, who has been president of the Pittsburgh Bridge Association several times.

Whenever there is a tournament In Pittsburgh, there is always crowd in Thoma's room after the sessions, golug over the hands. When today's hand was discussed, he salt! that at rubber bridge it should be played at six clubs. But it was played in
Therefore, a duplicate game. Thoms felt that when his partner went to six clubs, he had to go to six no trump,
I am quite sure that if the hand were played at six clubs, that is exactly what would be made. West would open his fourth best diamond and East would cash the ace, However, at alx no trump Eart could the not be criticised for opening jack of spades. North, of course, won and cashed all of the clubs, discording the queen, jack and ten of diamonds from his own hand.
Poor East felt the pinch on the six club discards. Hn let go threo diamonds, then dropped the six of spades, but he still had to discard the deuce and seven of hearts. North then cashed the king and queen of spades and led the low heart to dummy's ace, East's ten falling. The six of hearts was led back. As the contract was only six, déclarer did not need the finesse. He went up with the king of hearts, which dropped East's queen, and the Jack of hearts was good for the last trick.
