To find out why, I went to stay with the main group of these Germans-among them five Nobel Prize winners- at the one-time Luftwaffe aerodynamics research station in Gottingen.

As a guest of Dr Ronald Fraser, the British scientist in charge of the station, I was allowed to talk freely with them, to see them at work, and to discuss their future with them and with Control Commission authorities.

I found that both the Germen scientists and the British officials are convinced that the rehabilitation of science is an essential step in the rebuilding of Germany as a peaceful, self-supporting State, able to pay us repara- tions instead of needing loans.
