AROUND THE CINEMAS QUEEN S
"Wilson"-A Memorable
Portrayal And Stirring Pageant
"WWILSON,” showing at the Queen's Theatre until Thursday, is both A memorable portrayal and a stirring pageant with an ingenious variety of pace and skilful handling of light and shade.. The biography of the twenty-eighth President of the United States, it is undertaken with integrity and imagination.
Darryl Zanuck, the producer, conceived the iden of the film when, while moving among American ex-servicemen from the Aleutians to Africo, he was impressed by the unanimity of feeling for an International; police force and felt that Woodrow Wilson's support for the concept of a League of Nations paralleled the problems of to-morrow. While the film portrays the : battle for lasting pence after the last war, the film has clearly in view the almost identical situa- tion which faces the Allied Nations at the end of World War Two,

The ascetle stubborn Princeton professor is not an easy subject for the screen. To offset the effect of his extreme reserve in public life, the film presents him as an almost father and a devoted playful husband.

He gives n. performance which won him the Academy Award nomina- tlon, and one which makes him one of the screen's' outstanding dia- coveries.
Ruth *Netson' and Geraldine Fitzgerald give vivid portruyals as the first and second Mrs Wilson. Such fine nefors na Charles Colburn, Thomas Mitchell, Sir Cedrie Kard- weke and Vincent Price are all up to their usual high standard.
FOR exacting movie patrons who
like their fore loaded with music and comedy, Paramount's "And the Angels Sing," which is currently showing at the Alhambra and Central Theatres provides the perfect mixture.
