Five Men Wiped Out A Battery
· Crossing. Of. River In Syrian Campaign FIVE Scotsmen wiped out a whole battery of French "76's," and were, to a great extent, responsible for the heroic crossing of the Litani River in Syria.
Landing from the sea, special Scottish units trained for every kind of fighting, crossed the Litani and began mopping up deflant French snipers on the thickly-wooded hillsides.

Unable even to make contact with the Australians advancing from the south, they decided to fight until they were wiped out.
They landed in the middle machine-gun emplacements snipers operating in squares.
