Chan Chun-nam May Not Defend Titles
Understudies Proving Worthy Of Attention
Tsui Hang's Promising Form
(By "Tinker")
THERE IS EVERY POSSIBILITY that Chan Chun- nam, last year's sensation of the Colony Aquatic Cham- pionships, may not defend his titles this year, for one of two reasons. In several of the recent galas his non- participation in some of the events has raised conjecture, and when recently I was informed that he was under doctor's orders, I saw the reason.
This, however, is not the primary спине that may keep him out. He has arranged to visit his people around late September or early October, and if all goca well, he will be leny. ing the Colony at that time.
It is true that he hasn't been feeling quite up to the mark of late,

medical grounds.

His understudies, however-Yau Sol-kwan and Lott Tal-ping-have carry the proved their ability to name of Lai Tsun through the Cham- pionships.
Consistently, Yau Sal-kwan has Heputised for his elder club-mate and has not been beaten. His most re- cent effort in the Lai Tsun-Royal Scuts gala on Monday night promotes him to the front rank of ermpetitors for the 220 yards event.
time of 2 mlas 31 RCCA broke Chan's 2 mins 32 nees for that distance In the annual ear- nival taxt year, and on Saturday, when La!
the Taun entertain Hongkong University, he will have "lat" race against one of his best opponents-Charles Huang. This will be over the quarter mile, but though luang is trying hard to reduce his time for the furlong, 1 doubt if he can better 2.31.
But You's greatest threat will be Ng Nin, who last year came second In the 220 to Chan Chun-nom, for this year the events are spread over two weeks, which will provide Ng
Nin more time to take part in nearly Bil events he would have done last year had it been practicable.

the Championship swim- on the Shanghai events recently made much of Hekking's strategy in winning-the-220-yards free-style from T. Chic by a touch. The time, 2 mins 37 sees, was nothing to rave about, but the excitement of the race was bound up in the closeness of the Anish.
The pool was measured in metres, and for the 220 yards the compell tors had to complete eight length and then another yurd.
