Situation
Pacific Shipping Affected By Ship Withdrawal
NEW YORK, May 12.-A serious shipping situation has been caused in the Far Eastern trade by the increased sinking of ships and the withdrawal of European vessels from the Pacific according to a report published in the Far Eastern Survey by the American Council, Institute of Pacific Relations. American, Japanese, Scandinavian and Dutch merchant ships are finding it, impossible to re- place the losses.

SHUIKOW, June 24 (Central News) Chinese troops in the past few days have launched repeated attacks on the Japanese in Foochow and there has been considerable fighting in the immediate outskirts of the city.
It is estimated that over 60 per cent. of British overseas shipping operations to and from China had been withdrawn by the end of last year. No British ships are reported to be running between America and the Orient, and many vessels have been removed from the American-Australian run.
