The essential in the cleansing of bowls and chopsticks is not so much a question of "bolling" water as the use of chlorinated water with which ench stall must provide itself, to- gether with
small amount
of chlorinated lime which
can be added from
to time, if and when rora timme
or when the cleansing necessary, water needs renewal. In the in- terests of the health of the city this chemical is an absolute necessity and would be supplied in small quantities ree to the hawkers of cooked foods. The properties and potency of chlorine and
chlorinated water as germaleldes are so well oppreciated and utilised by the Army Health Authorities, especially when troops are on the move and water supplies are suspect, that there is no need to expatiate on this phase of the sub- ject further, and infection from polluted waler becomes a bogey brought to the foretront to score a credulous public.
It is the writer's belief that a more Renerous use of chlorinated lime in the cleansing of Hongkong would do more to rndlente Cholera than in- oculation which in any case is potent anly for comparatively short period.
a
The Water Authority is reputed to supply drinking water which has been chlorinated, following niteration at the source of distribution, so that the amount of chlorinated lime to be added at the stall would be of an infinitesimal amount when compared with the volume of water used.

Question of Provision Of Free Food
A dispute has arisen between the European Tallor Masters Association and
thele
plece-work employees
over the question of the provision of free food, and the charges for making certain articles of clothing, it was learned from Mr B. C. K. Hawkins, Labour Officer, yesterday.
These workers asked that the minimum charge for each zult be increased and that they be given free food as well. The masters are will-
