Popularity Assured
(By "Tinker")
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, following a visit to the Shumshuipo Barracks to watch a Middlesex Boxing Tournament, I wrote on the initiative that Middlesex sportsmen had shown in the making of their roller-skat- ing rink. It was the only one in Hongkong, and it was then advocated that as a civilian enterprise it would also prove popular.
At the time, it was doubtless dismissed as just another article. But take a look around the Colony to-day and count the number of skating rinks that arc. And another is being laid out!
60001
The Ritz, at North Point, was the first to lay out a rink, but I was of followed by others-two them on the mainland, and though I haven't been inside yet, I heard the sound of roller-skaten on one of the upper floors of one of the hotels in the central district a little while ngo. Happy Valley is the site for the newest rink."
