Selfishness And Mistakes

In Dribbling And Passing

Avoid One-handed Play

NO ONE can play hockey by himself, but only as a member of a team; play, therefore, with your team. Hanging on to the ball, no matter how ex- port a dribbler you may be, upsets the balance and weakens offectiveness.

A common mistake with beginners, and one which is difficult to cure once it has become a habit, is one-handed. play. There can be neither accuracy in hitting nor control in dribbling unless both hands are kept on the stick.

But perhaps the commonest fault of all is that of hitting to the left. The stick is so made that in its normal position it is held on the right-hand side of the body, consequently the easi- est direction in which to hit the bal is to the left; this by swinging the stick slightly across the body.

the right. It is all this more im- portant to correct this fault, for the attack is more easily made from the right than the left.

There are exceptions to the rule, but the main principle is this:

the

Wing balves should mark wing forwards, and the centre half; the centre forward, leaving the backs for enre for the inside-forwards.

A frequent fault is the wing half moving in to tackle the innerman; leaving the outer man on his own and unhindered.
