LONDON, Apr. 3 (British Wire- less) The Minister of Agriculture said in the House of Commons to day that 'since 1914 the amount of arable land under crops had actually decreased by 4,500,000 acres. For every thousand seres of cultivated land in the last war, there were 1,195 human beings to be fed and the Agure was now 1,324.
Between the outbreak of the last war and this war, the production of fodder and roots crops for live stock had fallen by no less than one third.
With regard to future poucy, the Minister said that there was bound to be a ment shortage. The short- age of imported meat would continuc for several months and British agri- culture would have to step into the breach to make good the shoriage to malatain the meat ration of the people.
Mr Lloyd George, speaking in the debate, said that in this grave hour, the life of the nation depended on agriculture. We were rejoicing In stories of the most brilliant victories on land, at sea and in the air that have ever illumined the military an- nais of this country. They dazzled our eyes but we must take care that they did not blind them.
