Axis Protests
WASHINGTON, Apr..1 (UP)-1 is reliably stated that Germany and Italy have demanded the prompt re- lease of the seized merchant ships and crews. He added that the protests would not be published for the present. He asserted that Italy had not repiled to the United States request to close the Italian vice- consulates at Newark, NJ., and De troit, and he declined to discuss the possibility of further action.
