JUMPING MEN-It's quite a trick to leap from a plane and land right side up, so men of the 501st Parachute Battalion are receiv- ing training, at Fort Benning, Ga., in how to do it. Preliminary practice, simulating actual jumping, is on the ground. Later they go up in planes to leap. Top panel shows a quintet, wearing special helmets,
ready to go aloft. Previously they practised jumping from a grounded plane cabin, contro loft, and had leaped from a staging, contre right, to learn how to land. Bottom, ad- vanced students go into action with auto- matic rifles after landing with their 'chutes. Students in advanced courses leap in groups.

Nation-wide notoriety has been aroused by the activities of the American appeasement group called the "No Foreign War Committee," one of the founders of

The chairman of the Committee is Verne Marshall,, a native of Lowa and editor of the "Cedar Rapids Gazette," and winner of a Pulitzer Prize for journalism, Marshall's name and that of his Committee has frequently been linked with William Rhodes Davis, international oil. operator, who was reported to have brought Nazi peace proposals to the United States.
Davis, however, in a public interview recently denied that
that he had, not done so since the cutbreak of the war,
he was the Committee's "arigel," or, in other words, financial backer. Reporting the interview given to the press, the New York newspaper "PM" writes:-- William Rhodes Davis, inter- national oil operator, tossed

First Interview
Affable, but obviously nervous. Mr Davis met reporters in his office at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. It was his first interview with the press since Me Marshall, on Dec. 30, announced that Mr Davis had brought German peace terms to President Roosevelt In 1930.
Mr Marshall had referred to these terms as "agenda." ̈ Re- porters pressed Mr Davis for an explanation of the terms, but all questions on this subject were neally parried. They wero not answered,
Mr Davis announced that he had written a letter to Senator Wheeler demanding that he be given an op- portunity to appear before a Congres alonal committee and clear himself "of unfair and malicious charges."
He demanded a complete Congres- sional Investigation into reports that he was working for a world penes
attempting to help the Axis powers in getting all from Mexico.
