More Police Wanted. As has been amunced. In addition to the Police Reserve, the Government has estab lished #
corps of 500 street guards, for street patrol against crime, These guards are to be known as Special Constabulary and are to go on duty
snon,
Meanwhile, Government has de- cided also to increase the strength of the Police Reserve. The Hon. Mr W. Perdue, acting Commissioner of Pelice, issues the following appeal:
"The Police Reserve is one of the Civil Defence organisations of this Colony. It is different from other auxiliary organisations in that it has been in existence since 1927 and that its members have frequently been called upon for duty at various limes since that year. In case this Colony is subjected to attack, the Pollee Reserve will perform on important function in suppleinenting the strength of the regular Policy Force,
"The strength of the Police Reserve has already risen from total of 343 in January, 1040, to a total of 966 at the present time..
"In view of the beavy task which would fall on the Police Force should hostilities extend to this Colony, it is desired to increase the Pollen Re- serve to a total strength of 1,500 as soon as possible.
"The Reserve is composed of the Chinese Company, Indian Company, the Flying Squad and the Emergency Unit. The last three have already almost reached maximum strength and the increase now proposed in the Police Reserve must therefore be achieved mainly by an increase in the strength of the Chinese Company.
"I appeal therefore to all young men of Chinese race who have not yet joined one or other of Colony's civil defence organisations to come forward and take their share in the defence of the Colony by join- ing the Police Reserve. Young men who are keen on games and an out- door life will find the Police Reserve work attractive.
