FIVE NEW ANTI-T.B.
CLINICS OPENED RECENTLY
A report on the local Anti-Tuber- culoals Clinics has been issued by the Hongkong Anti-Tuberculosis Associa tion, and shows that five clinics were operated on the Island and Kowloon Peninsula in. 1040 under the auspices. of the Association.
The first to be opened was at the Kowloon City Chinese Publin Dis pensary, by kind permission of the Chairman. This clinle started on June and was staffed by two volunteer doctors from the Maryknoll Convent and a Nursing Sister, all possessing special experience in the diagnosis and care of tuberculous patients. A total of 272 patients were examined. and
revisits numbered 1,003. The nge and sex distribution consisted of 210 adults and 62 children, of whom 116 were males and 160 females.
Many visits were paid by the staff ......... to the homes in and around Kowloon City to ensure that the advice given in the clinic was carried out as for Ins economic
conditions and the serious lack of house room allowed. Suspected eases were submitted to X-ray examination and to tuberculin tests.
Cod liver oil emulsion and sub- stitute and fifteen half-pints of soya bean milk (vita-milk) donated daily by leading commercial were given at this centre with satis- factory results.
