EARLY AND LATE DECLARATIONS
K.C.C. Juniors Hold On Too Long:
L. T. Ride Saves University
THERE WERE two rather curious games on Saturday last and they illustrated two very different views on cricket. The I.R.C. made a very sporting declaration against the University first olevon to onable them to have a chance of winning. The fact that they lost does not to my mind alter the fact that they did the right thing.
►
Batsmen In Scoring Mood
Against the University second,-not a dangerous batting side though they can keep their wickets up-the K.C.C. second eleven held on until ten past four when they had 211 on the board. It is true that it enabled two men to complete their centuries. But it probably cost the side a win.
Hulac batted very well for the Craigengower side, and I was sorry only to see the last third of his Innings. Going in first wicket down he remained unde- feated at the end of the innings. scoring fifty-eight.

form.
It is not a big ground and it: the wicket-keeper inises the ball it at the boundary at once, but this is far below Archie Ziminern's true The strong K.C.C. bitting made little of the task of getting 120 runs and Anderson (41) D. Hun (23), and E. F. Fincher (47) get inst of them. I am glad to see Ernie Fin- cher getting runs again as he has had
a poor seARON.
I
Sporting Declaration WAS very interested to see that Ride has decided to play for the Varsity in the league. It will stiffen their batting tremendously. They are already a very much improved side and ghould do quite well.

I still adhere to the view, which is general and not particular, that it would be wise for all Club seere- tarles to check up on their games a couple of days before.
Century At The Club HERE was a carefree game between the Club "A", which included Major Grose, Richard- 801 and Perry. The latter got
out-a good knock to watch. The score was 150 for 8 when Richardson, (who I understand was acting captain), declared.
Senior and Junior championships| of the Kowloon Chess Club have been divided into two sections for each-
"A" and "D"-and the winners of each Section will meet in the best of three games to decide the absolute winners.
The field is fairly open in the "A" Section of the Senior Championship where both Sequiera and Karpovich have scored 5% points each, although

Britain's Fighters Carry On Even When Off Duty
INTERNATIONAL belligerence generally has resulted in the private variety being stimulated considerably. Between 1914-1918 there were twenty-five title fights in England and the Inter-Allied Tournaments during 1918 and 1919 provided an immense stimulus to the boxing game in London.

Ride'a 40 not out was the decisive tcore, but Fenton got 24, and the captain, N. C. Sen Gupta, was not out 10, hilting off the runs with Ride.
Minu got 4 for 82 and rather think the matting does not suit him. He and A. H. Mudar bowled all but three of the 20 overs, sent down and it "deft that the Indians are sadly ip need of some good change

The next and really · first,' big boxing event was the lightweight chinaspionsalp life bout at Harrin gay Arena in which Erlo Boon Kuccessfully defended his crown against the former champion, Dave Crowley.
This finished disappointing, for after soven rounds, Crowley's Achilles tendon on his right leg went and Boon thus retained his cham- plonship. Probably he would, have done so anyway, but the mercurial Crowley can be accounted just n little unlucky on that occasion.
