SPITFIRES CHASE NAZIS Exchange At ACROSS THE CHANNEL

LONDON, Dec. 5 (Reuter).—Formations of Messerschmidts which crossed the -south-cast const of England to-day were scattered in all directions by Spitfires which

chased them right across the Channel.

Bombs were dropped on one town but did no serious damuge. An unsuccessful attempt was also made to bomb some small ships in the Channel but the ships replied so effectively that the raiders were driven off.

In the evening heavy gunfire abook Channel coast towns £13 British and Gorman long-range guns fought a violent artillery duel across the Straits of Dover. The cannonading was.continuing with unabated force after it had been in progress for an hour.

Aircraft Shot Down

LONDON,- Dec. 6 (Router).-The number of enemy aircraft destroyed off the British const to-day has now increased to 10, including one enemy bamber shot down off the south-west coast.

The remainder were destroyed in combats in the south-east, states un Air Ministry communique,
