Brilliant Iron Shots Carry Him Through
Marton And Hunter Fail Through Putting

THERE COULDN'T have been a finer day for golf than Sunday last when the Amateur Cham- pionship of the Colony was played at the Royal Hongkong Golf Club, Fanling. High clouds ob- scured the sun in the morning, and though the nip in the air disappeared when the sun broke through in the afternoon, conditions were still al- most ideal for the game.
T. A. (Alec) Pearce crowned his sporting successes in Hongkong by taking the title, though from reports he had the narrowest of squeaks in beating both A. E. C. Marton and F. D. Hunter-the first named being one stroke behind and the second two.
Brilliant irons carried him through. Putting seems to have been the general weakness of these top three. Pearce was a little uncertain in the morning though he sank several long ones nicely, but with Marton and Hunter it was a definite fail- ing. The latter missed at least three putts that should have gone down with one hand for they were only about long!
